Course description

The Environmental Physics program delves into the intricate connections between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, solid earth, and climate. It emphasizes hands-on experience with cutting-edge experimental techniques, advanced numerical data analysis using supercomputers, and data interpretation through the latest models. This program is a collaborative effort between two of Germany's premier research institutions: the Institute of Environmental Physics (IUP) and the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz-Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). The curriculum covers essential physical, mathematical, and chemical principles that underpin current research at these institutes. Students develop the skills and problem-solving abilities necessary for experimental design and project development, preparing them for careers in research or industry. The program equips students with the expertise needed to tackle complex environmental challenges, fostering a deep understanding of the natural world and its processes.
