M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
The Master's degree in physics equips you with essential skills for a future career as a physicist through a research-intensive and closely mentored study program. This international Master's program spans four semesters, totaling 120 credit points. It is structured into two main phases: the advanced studies phase in the first two semesters and the research phase in the final two semesters. During the advanced studies phase, you'll delve into applied, experimental, and theoretical subject areas. The content is aligned with the research priorities of the Institute of Physics and its partner institutions. Our primary focus is on materials research related to semiconductor devices and functional materials. This includes identifying and characterizing new materials for future silicon-based nanotechnologies, developing and investigating innovative semiconductor devices, such as integrated sensors, based on new physical concepts or materials, and conducting spectroscopic analysis of interfaces and nanostructures. Additionally, we explore concepts for integrating new devices into existing technology platforms, like developing integrated THz radiation sources, and address questions regarding technical reliability. These experimental and applied research topics are complemented by robust activities in theoretical physics, particularly in condensed matter theory and non-linear physics. At the Institute of Physics at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, we aim to provide a comprehensive
