Course description
The two-year master's degree in mathematics is a scientific and research-focused program. It builds on the knowledge gained from a Bachelor's degree in mathematics. Students are expected to have completed two introductory lectures in their chosen field during their bachelor's studies. Additionally, they should possess the knowledge taught in the bachelor's program at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern, especially in the non-mathematical application subject. The program offers a broad mathematical education, exposing students to various modern mathematical methods. It enhances their ability to recognize connections and compare structures. Simultaneously, students delve into current mathematical research in their chosen field. The curriculum includes 18-21 credit points (CP) for further lectures, 12 CP for courses involving independent scientific work under supervision, at least one seminar (3 CP each), and a master's thesis (30 CP). Students also complete 18-21 CP each for lectures or lectures with exercises in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and the non-mathematical application subject. The course structure is flexible, with no compulsory subjects, only prescribed content from specific subject catalogs. proof of English language proficiency is required. As proof, TOEFL iBT (score of at least 79) and IELTS (at least 6.0) are accepted. Exemptions for applicants from certain countries apply. Further information can be found on the online application platform. The University of Kaiserslautern requires proof of basic knowledge in the German language. This knowledge can be acquired after enrolment and is not required for admission.
Qualification Requirements
The prerequisite for admission to the master's program is the successful completion of the Bachelor's examination in mathematics at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern or at least equivalent examination achievements that include a professionally qualifying university degree (e.g. bachelor's degree, diploma).
Document Requirements
Leaving certificate of the study courses and - if required - further documents showing final grade, duration of studies, and other performances, e.g. in form of an academic transcript, transcript of records, or equivalent proofs of performance. Description of contents of the courses listed in No. 1. Statement with reasons for the intended takingup of the studies and explanations of study aims. Presentation of professional and personal development (curriculum vitae), if applicable, with descriptions of practical knowledge and experience. Recommendation letters of at least 2 university/college lecturers. The recommendation letters should include statement on how well the applicant completed his/her studies in relation to other candidates of the course of studies.
