Proof of English as medium of instruction in other bachelor programmes will not be accepted for admission.
Qualification Requirements
For applications to the English-language bachelor's programme Mechatronics and Robotics (B.Eng.), no proof of German is required. However, applicants must prove English language skills by one of the following certificates: IELTS: min. 6.5 points TOEFL: min. 86 points (internet-based) Additional information: English as native language is accepted. Proof of English as medium of instruction in other bachelor programmes will not be accepted for admission. Furthermore, you will need to prove your university entrance qualification equivalent to German high-school diploma ("Abitur"). In most cases, this will be your high-school certificate. On www.anabin.de you can find out how your high-school degree is rated in Germany. If your high-school diploma does not qualify you to enter studies in Germany, you instead have the option to take part on a probationary study within the first two semesters of your bachelor's programme. You are required to pass succesfull 50% of examination performances to be allowed to complete the study at Schmalkalden University. If you are able to gain 30 ECTS points during the period of your temporary enrolment (two semesters) you have fulfilled the requirements for the admission process and will be enrolled as a regular student. After your documents have been reviewed, you will be informed of your registration for the admission process. After your registration you will be enrolled like any other degree-seeking student, however on a temporary enrolment for two semesters. This is only possible when applying for a Bachelor's degree programme; Master's degree programmes are exempted from that option.
Document Requirements
In any case, these are all the documents you need to provide when applying at Schmalkalden University for a full degree: Informal cover letter Completed application form IELTS or TOEFL certificate officially certified photocopy of the higher education entrance qualification (e.g. school leaving certificate) and translation in German or English alternatively: diploma certificate of a completed engineering study or certified grades list of one sucessfull completed year of university engineering course programme. Both documents have to be officially certified. Copy of birth certificate or identity card passport photo for student ID card if applicable, certificate of exmatriculation (if studying at a previous university)
