Polymer Science
Subjects: Polymer Science
M.Sc. | Master of Science
Course description
Polymer science is a multifaceted field that blends chemistry, physics, engineering, processing, and theoretical studies. It plays a crucial role in modern materials science, aiming to create and understand polymeric materials and their structure/property relationships. Polymers are integral to many functional materials, gears, and devices we use daily. About 30% of scientists in the chemical industry focus on polymers, highlighting its significance. Despite its importance, Germany lacks a comprehensive university-level program in polymer science. Recognizing this gap, the Berlin-Brandenburg Polymer Society initiated a two-year Master of Science in Polymer Science program in the winter semester of 1999/2000. This program was collaboratively designed by experts from Free University Berlin (FU), Humboldt University Berlin (HU), Technical University Berlin (TU), and the University of Potsdam (UP). The goal was to compete with top polymer centers worldwide. To attract international students, the program is taught in English. This interdisciplinary program benefits from its proximity to several scientific centers in Berlin and Potsdam, including the Max Planck, Fraunhofer, and Helmholtz Institutes, as well as the BESSY II synchrotron. The universities involved are equipped with cutting-edge technical equipment, laboratories
