Course description

The English-language Master’s degree in European Urban Studies at the Institute for European Urban Studies delves into urban and spatial planning, urban design, and development. This program prepares students for careers in the European professional field, focusing on the history, political, and social makeup of European cities and their role in European unification. With the European Union’s Urban Agenda, cities have become key political and economic arenas. The Treaty of Lisbon highlights their importance in achieving European goals like citizen-oriented policies, social cohesion, and cultural diversity. The European Urban Studies program equips students with the knowledge and skills to tackle future challenges in European cities. A core component of the program is the scientific study of urban and spatial planning, urban development, and urban research. A standout feature is the individually supervised Guided Research Project in Europe. This project allows third-year students to conduct fieldwork at a partner institution, such as a European university or research center, fostering a deep scientific connection. The program is designed to be clear, concise, and accessible, ensuring students are well-prepared for their future roles in shaping European cities.
