With high-quality state and private medical universities, there are many medical schools in Germany to choose from. Healthcare professionals are in high demand in Germany which provides a variety of job opportunities after your studies are complete.

Study medicine in Germany

Medical study programs in Germany include Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy

Some of the oldest and most prestigious universities, as well as more modern institutions which offer medical degrees and practical experience.

Qualification requirements for medicine in Germany vary between institutions, as well as the language skills needed for individual courses. Many medical degree programs also require aptitude tests, natural science exams, and interviews as part of the application process.

University of Hamburg

Founded in 1919, the University of Hamburg is one of the top universities in Germany as well as one of the largest. More than 170 courses are offered in 8 faculties, including Medicine, Education, and Psychology and Human Movement Science.

International students can apply for a degree in Medicine, Dentistry or a certificate in Molecular Biology, the latter being taught in English. All Medical course begin in the winter semester.

A degree in Medicine takes 10 semesters with one practical year and Dentistry is 11 semesters.

Applications for Medicine degrees are assessed through a combination of grade-point average, a natural sciences exam and standardized interview, additionally for Dentistry there is an aptitude test focusing on fine motor skills and a spatial perception aptitude test.

 

University of Göttingen

An internationally renowned research university founded in 1737, Göttingen has over 30,000 students. Officially known as Georg-August University Göttingen, it is associated with a long history in the mathematical world.

The Medical faculty and the University Hospital are jointly referred to as University Medicine Göttingen. A degree in Medicine involves a preclinical study period of 4 semesters and then a clinical study period of 6 semesters, followed by a final practical year.

International students must apply for a place for the winter semester between March 1st and April 30th or for the summer semester between September 1st and October 31st.

 

Ruprecht-Karls-Universitätsklinikum Heidelberg

Heidelberg University is a German medical university dating back to 1386. The oldest university in the country now uses cutting-edge medical knowledge to train doctors and medical professionals of the future.

The medical Heidelberg University in Germany offers a range of degrees including Medical Informatics, Clinical Medical Physics, and Medical Biometry/Biostatistics, as well as an MD/PhD program.

The PhD program has six scholarships available each year.

A Test für Medizinische Studiengänge (medical studies test), relevant medical or dental certificates, and higher education qualifications are among the factors taken into consideration for applicants.

 

Westfälische-Wilhelms University Münster

Known as WWU or the University of Münster, this institution has been open since 1771. There are over 3,500 international students out of a total of 45,000.

With 15 faculties and 30 research centers, the university offers extensive educational and research prospects.

Students are able to start in the summer as well as the winter semester. Degrees in Medicine and Dentistry are offered at WWU.

Applicants are vetted on their higher education qualifications in addition to taking the Münster Study Ability Test. In this test, basic medical and scientific understanding is assessed. Prospective candidates will also complete short interaction scenarios, based primarily on non-cognitive abilities.

University of Bonn

Formally known as the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University Bonn, the University of Bonn was founded in 1818.

The University of Bonn is ranked as the 13th highest university in Germany.

There are over 200 courses available, including a master's in Drug Research, Nutrition, and Psychology. There are around 38,000 students at the university, including 4,500 international students.

A degree in Medicine takes 12 semesters and entry requirements include CEFR C1 German proficiency and a suitable higher education entrance qualification. The application period for the winter semester is between June and the deadline on July 15th. For the summer semester the deadline is January 15th.
