Course description
The Master's programme in Electrical Engineering equips students with specialized expertise in key areas such as Microelectronics Design and Communication Systems. This includes a strong foundation in theoretical concepts, practical skills, and application knowledge in fields like Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuits, Semiconductor Physics, Photonics, Embedded Systems, Digital Communications, and High-Frequency Engineering. Students must choose one of two specializations offered in English: Electronics Design and Technology (EDT) or Communication Engineering. The EDT specialization focuses on Microsystems and Integrated Circuit design. Both specializations provide in-depth knowledge and a wide range of modules to choose from. The final master's thesis constitutes three-quarters of the course. Additionally, the department offers a specialization in "Automatisierungstechnik," which is available in German. TOEFL: A minimum of 533 (paper-based), 200 (computer-based), 72 (internet-based) (The TOEFL code number for the University of Siegen is 8429) IELTS: A minimum of 6 Exemptions from English language requirements Those who have finished their previous studies, either at school or bachelors level in a country, where English is the predominant language. This includes USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia and Caribbean countries where English is the official language. Your high school diploma is from any EU/EEA country (like German Abitur, International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate) and if English as one of the examined subjects, with grades equivalent to B2 level of English. A bachelors degree from Germany or another EU/EEA countries, with English as one of the examined subjects In all of these cases, upload a copy of your certificates/transcripts as proof of English and explain the same in your cover letter. It is worth noting that these are our admission requirements. Should you need a visa to come to Germany, please check with the German embassy in your country for their requirements. We do not accept "Medium of Instruction" certificates. We currently also do not accept any other language test.
Qualification Requirements
We expect our applicants to have a good bachelor’s degree equivalent to University of Siegen's bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering. This could be a degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Communication/Telecommunication engineering, Computer Science /Engineering, Instrumentation/Control engineering or equivalent covering at least 6 semesters The applicant should have studied courses covering Mathematical and Scientific Fundamentals, Fundamentals of electrical and measurement technology, Theoretical electrical engineering (field theory, signal and system theory) and Project work. For Electronics Design and Technology, they should have also studied a minimum of 20 Credit points in any courses related to Semiconductor and Circuit Technology, Semiconductor Physics, Power Electronics or Highfrequency Technology For Communication Technologies, they should have also studied a minimum of 20 Credit points in any courses related to Communications Technology, Optical Communications, High Frequency Technology, Electromagnetic Fields or Signal and Systems. For those not from European credit system, we translate typical full time studies in one semester (6 months) to be 30 credits. Hence, if you studied 5 courses in 1 semester, with equal weightage - each would roughly be 6 credits. Those in the final year of their undergraduate degrees are welcome to apply, provided they will complete their degrees by September. In this case, mention the same in your cover letter and provide trascripts till date
Document Requirements
A cover letter in no more than 2 pages with 4 sections A brief statement on why you want to be admitted to our program 1-2 paragraph explaining your final year project or any other project you have undertaken A brief statement on your future plans A full CV detailing your qualifications, name and addresses of two referees, and any other information you want to provide, like your prizes, project details, etc Scanned copies of all certificates as a single file. This should contain Certificate of academic record/final transcripts/consolidated marks sheet Alternatively, scanned copies of all transcripts till date, if you are still in your final year of university degree Certificate of final university degree A copy of transcipts of your school leaving certificate / Abitur / board examination Additionally, if you had a university entrance examination, like JEE in India, you should also submit a copy of that If the original documents are not in English or German, an English or German translation must be provided English proficiency test certificate, e.g. TOEFL test certificate (the university TOEFL code number is 8429) or IELTS test certificate
