Course description
The MSc program in Atmospheric Science immerses you in the physics of the atmosphere, covering everything from weather patterns to climate dynamics, and from turbulence to global waves. You'll gain a comprehensive understanding of the atmosphere as a crucial component of the Earth system. The goal of Atmospheric Science is to comprehend the atmosphere to predict its future behavior. In pursuit of this goal, you'll explore a wide range of methodologies, including numerical modeling, data analysis using artificial intelligence, physical theories, and both lab and field experiments. Hamburg boasts a rich history of excellence in meteorology and climate science research. Notably, anthropogenic climate warming was first identified here by Prof. Klaus Hasselmann, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2021. Today, Hamburg is home to the KlimaCampus, a unique network of university partners and external research institutions, such as the renowned Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and the German Climate Computation Center. This dynamic research environment offers numerous opportunities to join research groups as student assistants, engage in cooperative master thesis projects, and participate in interdisciplinary studies.
