Course description
The Sound Studies and Sonic Arts program is a low-residency, part-time postgraduate course designed for professionals in the sound field who hold a university degree or possess exceptional creative talent. This program aims to enhance both theoretical and practical skills in audio-related disciplines, focusing on cultural studies, musicology, aesthetics, sound art, performance, architecture, design, and media production. Conducted in English, the program spans three years, blending periods of residency with off-campus projects. It culminates in a Master project, awarding participants a Master of Arts degree. This structure allows students to deepen their understanding and expertise while balancing their professional commitments. The curriculum is rich and diverse, covering a wide range of subjects. Students delve into cultural studies, exploring the societal impacts of sound. Musicology offers insights into the historical and theoretical aspects of music. Aesthetics examines the philosophical dimensions of sound and its artistic expressions. Sound art and performance provide practical and creative avenues for students to experiment and innovate. Qualification Requirements
Diploma, Bachelor or equivalent higher-education qualification (completed study from the University of the Arts Berlin or from a different artistic and/or scientific University within Germany or an equivalent national or international degree after at least 6 semesters of study), for exceptions see below. Relevant professional experience in the field of sound, minimum one year. In case applicant has no higher education (Diploma, Bachelor or equivalent higher-education qualification) a minimum of five years intensively working in the field of sound is required. Artistic and creative talent, which will be assessed during the entrance examination.
