Course description
The two-year Master's programme in Physical Biology of Cells and Cell Interactions (PBioC) operates on an international scale, offering a deep, research-focused education in eukaryotic and organismal cell biology and physical biology. This programme equips students with a thorough understanding of essential eukaryotic life processes. These include cell growth, cell-cell communication, differentiation, and various signaling mechanisms such as hormonal, inflammatory, angiogenic, and aging processes. Students explore these processes using diverse animal and plant model systems, examining cells, tissues, and entire organisms. The programme employs advanced experimental and conceptual methods from cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, immunology, genetics, (neuro-)physiology, and morphological analysis. A significant emphasis is placed on advanced microscopy techniques and their applications for in vivo analysis of tissues and multicellular systems, alongside data analysis. From the first semester, the programme combines theoretical courses with hands-on experimental activities. Students learn the fundamentals of various sub-disciplines and are introduced to the latest international research. They also develop essential occupational skills for interdisciplinary research, independent scientific thinking, and responsible action.
