Course description
Polymer science is a multifaceted field that blends chemistry, physics, engineering, processing, and theoretical studies. It plays a crucial role in modern materials science, aiming to create and characterize polymeric materials while understanding their structure and properties. Polymers are integral to many functional materials, gears, and devices we use daily. In fact, about 30% of scientists in the chemical industry focus on polymers. Despite its significance and potential for economic growth, Germany lacks a comprehensive university-level program in polymer science. Recognizing this gap, the Berlin-Brandenburg Polymer Society (Berlin-Brandenburgischer Verband für Polymerforschung e.V.) launched a two-year Master of Science program in the winter semester of 1999/2000. This initiative was a collaborative effort by polymer scientists from Free University Berlin (FU), Humboldt University Berlin (HU), Technical University Berlin (TU), and the University of Potsdam (UP). Their goal was to create a program competitive with leading polymer centers worldwide. To attract international students, the program is taught in English. This decision underscores the commitment to inclusivity and global competitiveness. The curriculum covers a wide range of subjects, ensuring a comprehensive education in polymer science. This program not only fills a critical educational
