Course description
The international master’s programme “Master of Science Music Acoustics” and the doctoral programme “Music Acoustics” delve into the acoustic dimensions of music creation. Key areas of focus include sound generation, the interplay between music, instruments, the environment, and the listener, as well as measurement technology for musical instruments. Students engage in research and development projects, presenting their work at national conferences like the “Jahrestagung für Akustik” (DAGA – Annual German Conference on Acoustics) and the Autumn Workshop of Fachausschuss “Musikalische Akustik” (FAMA – Music Acoustics Committee) of Deutsche Gesellschaft für Akustik (DEGA – German Acoustical Society). A two-semester course on musical acoustics is part of the “Acoustics” module in the “Tonmeister” Bachelor program. Regular exchanges with artistic study courses occur through “wfs-Spielräume,” a special concert series utilizing the Hochschule’s unique wave field synthesis system. Students benefit from top-notch recording and reproduction equipment, acoustic measurement technology, an electronics and audio lab, an echo chamber, a free-field room, and a wave field synthesis studio.
