Course description
The MA in American Studies is an interdisciplinary program taught in English, blending humanities and social sciences. It delves into U.S. society, culture, history, literature, and politics, placing them in international and intercultural contexts. This exploration is grounded in the interdisciplinary methodology and theory of American Studies. The program's structure reflects its interdisciplinary nature. Modules are thematically defined, addressing complex topics from various specialist perspectives. Leipzig’s Institute of American Studies collaborates with experts in political science, sociology, and other fields to enrich the curriculum. A key focus of the master’s program is project work. Students engage in research seminars within specialization modules and participate in the publication project of the program’s key qualification module (www.aspeers.com). This approach aims to develop students' skills in independently creating and executing projects, while enhancing their linguistic and cultural competence in transatlantic themes. The program fosters an inclusive and supportive learning environment. It emphasizes clear communication and practical skills, preparing students for diverse professional paths.
