Course description

The safety of computer-based systems is becoming increasingly important. To address this need, the University of Kassel offers a three-semester master’s program in Functional Safety Engineering (FUSE) for those with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, electrical engineering, mechatronics, or computer science. The courses are taught in English. Students will learn to apply and implement key safety standards such as IEC/EN 61508, IEC/EN 61511, IEC 61131, and ISO 26262 in both industry and scientific settings. The curriculum includes modules like Mathematical Models for Safety Systems, Theory of Safety-related Computer Architectures, and Safety Standards and Norms of Electronic Systems. Graduates of this program will find excellent job prospects in both industry and science.

School reports that provide evidence of learning the foreign language for at least 5 years, if the language was learned up to the final examinations that entitle pupils to study at a university. The final grade or the average grade from the final two years of language learning must be at least the equivalent of a German grade 4 (adequate). A course at a post-secondary education centre (e.g. a university), which lasted at least one year and the language, evidence of which needs to be provided, was the primary language of tuition. Qualification Requirements

Evidence of a bachelor's degree or "Diplom-I" examination in computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics or mathematics. The specialist profile of the degree needs to meet the requirements of the Functional Safety Engineering master's degree and proof of a normal university course lasting at least 7 semesters; and a minimum cumulative grade of "good" or "upper second-class honours" or an equivalent to 2.5 according to the German grading system; and English on the level B2 according to the Common European Framework for Languages (CEF).

Copy of your university entrance qualification certificate Officially certified copy of your first professional university degree (certificate: e.g. Bachelor's degree, Diplom I, state examination). If you do not have a Bachelor's degree certificate at the time of application, please submit the following evidence: Preliminary overview of subjects and grades of your previous studies and the certificate on the status in your studies, completed and signed by your current examination office: Bescheinigung zum Stand im Studium. At the time of application, at least 80% of the credits required for graduation must have already been earned and passed. This equates to 144 out of 180 or 168 out of 210 credits. In addition, proof of admission to the Bachelor's thesis (indicating the date of submission) must be available. Further proof specified in the examination regulations (see above).
