Course description
The Anthropology of the Americas degree program delves into the rich tapestry of the American continent, often referred to as the “New World.” This program offers a comparative study of cultural developments between the Americas and the Old World. A key focus is on Indigenous societies in Latin America and their global connections, both historically and in contemporary times. Students in this program gain a deep understanding of cultural and social studies methodologies and theories, alongside extensive regional knowledge of Latin America. The curriculum spans several fields: archaeology, which includes materials, epigraphy, and iconography; history, emphasizing source analysis; and ethnology, which addresses organizational structures and intercultural integration. A significant component of the program is mastering an Amerind language. Graduates emerge with the skills to independently and analytically explore cultural processes in Latin America, both past and present. They learn to present their findings clearly and effectively. Beyond language proficiency and regional expertise, students develop strong methodological and analytical abilities, as well as intercultural and interdisciplinary competencies. This program equips students to navigate and understand the complexities of Latin American cultures, fostering a sense of trust and inclusivity. The clear, concise, and empathetic approach ensures that graduates are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to their fields
