Getting a German Visa in 2025 Just Got Easier – Here’s What’s New!

Contents
If you’re planning to move to Germany for studies or work, we’ve got great news for you! The German visa process is becoming much simpler and faster thanks to a new online visa portal launched in 2025.
No more lengthy, complicated paperwork or long waiting times—everything is now streamlined into a few easy steps.
What’s New? The 3-Step Online Visa Process
Instead of multiple embassy visits and endless paperwork, you can now complete most of your visa application online through the German government's new Consular Services Portal.
Here’s how it works:
1. Apply Online
- Fill out your visa application form on the Consular Services Portal. The new system also includes a Visa Navigator tool to help you figure out the right visa type for your situation.
- Upload all required documents, like passport scans, proof of qualifications, and financial proof (such as a Blocked Account).
2. Digital Review
- German authorities will check your application online.
- If any documents are missing, they’ll request them via the portal—no need to visit the embassy just for this!
3. In-Person Verification
- Once your application is pre-approved, you’ll schedule an appointment at your nearest German embassy or consulate.
- This is for identity verification, document checks, and biometric data (fingerprints and photos).
Please note: online applications are not currently available for all countries and missions yet. You can check your specific location here to find out more.
How This Makes Your Life Easier
Old process | New 2025 process |
Lengthy paperwork and manual forms | Online visa application |
Multiple embassy visits | Just one in-person appointment |
Slow document processing times | Faster approvals with digital pre-checks |
Long waiting times for visa appointments | Quicker visa appointments due to pre-checks |
Hard to track application status | Status updates via the portal |
Do I Still Need to Provide Blocked Account Confirmation?
This new update does not affect the type of documents required for a successful application. If you're a student, job-seeker, or need any long-term visa for Germany, you'll more than likely still need a Blocked Account to prove you can support yourself in Germany. The good news? You can now upload your Blocked Account confirmation online during your visa application.
💡 With Expatrio’s Blocked Account, you can open it 100% online and get your confirmation in as little as one day - perfect for the new visa system!
