The University of Applied Sciences Ravensburg-Weingarten was founded in 1962 as a state engineering school and was reformed to become a university of applied sciences (“Fachhochschule”) in the early 1970s. There are 3,500 students of which 15%, around 500, are international. Today the university offers 35 bachelor's and master's degree courses across four faculties: the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Social Work, Health and Nursing, the Faculty of Technology and Management and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
After its reformation, the University of Applied Sciences Ravensburg-Weingarten began to offer a wider range of courses which included electronics, business, and, later, computing and nursing. It now offers a variety of courses across its four faculties. Early semesters are taught in English and later ones in German; this is to help prepare international students for work in Germany.
In partnership with the Weingarten University of Education, students are able to gain applied sciences degrees that incorporate a teaching qualification. Students can enjoy a variety of extra-curricular activities from skiing to car racing. International students are supported in many ways including via the Buddy-Program, the Brother and Sister Program, and the Council of Indian Students.
Internationals studying for more than one year in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg will have to pay a €1,500 tuition fee per semester.
