TU Bergakademie Freiberg is one of the world's leading universities in the fields of mining, geosciences and materials science. The university's most famous graduate is the natural scientist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt. In Freiberg he studied earth sciences and mining in 1791 and 1792.

Founded in 1765, it is the oldest still existing mining university in the world. With about 4,000 students, it has an ideal professor-student ratio. 34.5 % of the students are from abroad (status: winter semester 2019).
In order to address the economic and ecological challenges of the 21st century, the six faculties of the university conduct interdisciplinary research on alternatives for raw material extraction, energy technologies, materials and recycling processes.
In TU Bergakademie Freiberg you are able to study Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Earth Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Materials Science and Economics. The university offers 72 Bachelor‘s, Master‘s and Diplom courses including 14 Master programs taught in English. TU Bergakademie Freiberg also has 184 active partnership relations, including 76 Erasmus agreements and 18 interdisciplinary university cooperations. And students are able to benefit from double degree programs with partner universities in China, France and several other nations.
